Smudge
Smudge is the white cat seated at a dinner table before a plate of vegetables, wearing an expression of affronted disbelief. He is one half of Woman Yelling at a Cat — and, by widespread consensus, the half that is winning the argument.
Origin
The photo comes from a 2018 Tumblr post about a cat who, in the owner's telling, hated vegetables — the caption lore crystallized as "he no like vegetals". Smudge is a real cat from Canada whose table-seated posture and scandalized face made the image a standalone reaction shot even before its famous pairing.
Rise
In May 2019 a tweet fused Smudge with a screencap of reality-TV star Taylor Armstrong crying and pointing, and the resulting two-panel became one of the defining memes of the year: furious accusation on the left, feline rebuttal on the right. Smudge gained his own following as the face of unbothered innocence under attack — the energy of being yelled at while objectively correct about the salad.
Connections
Smudge is inseparable from Woman Yelling at a Cat, the format that made him a global defendant. He holds a seat in the internet cat pantheon alongside newer chain-native felines like Michi and the click-mouthed Popcat.
In BomberMeme
Smudge brings courtroom-calm to the arena: he does not chase fights, he wins them by expression alone, then detonates the table. Common card, Classic affinity, permanently seated energy. Mempedia's note for the Solana meme ecosystem: cats have been its reserve currency since the beginning — Smudge just refuses to eat the yield farming.
