Popcat is the two-frame cat with the O-shaped mouth — an infinitely clickable open-close loop that became first a global clicking game and then a Solana memecoin heavyweight.

Origin

The meme comes from photos of a cat named Oatmeal, whose edit — mouth closed, mouth agape in a perfect pop — spread through Twitter around late 2020, synced to bass drops and honk sounds.

Rise

In 2021 the browser game popcat.click turned the meme into an international clicking war, with countries competing on a global leaderboard measured in billions of pops — early proof that a meme could be a scoreboard. In 2024 POPCAT the token became one of the flagship cat-coins of the Solana supercycle, briefly making the clicky cat a billion-dollar mouth.
