Drake, in meme terms, is a decision engine: one panel recoiling in disgust, one panel pointing in smug approval. The Drakeposting format turned a rapper's music-video mannerisms into the internet's default tool for expressing preference.

Origin

The stills come from the music video for Hotline Bling, released in October 2015, in which Drake dances alone in a series of colored light boxes with gestures so expressive they were memed within hours. 4chan's music board pioneered Drakeposting, and the recoil-then-point two-panel quickly became a universal template.

Rise

The format's genius is composability: any two options, any domain, instantly legible. It became one of the most-used meme templates of the late 2010s and never fully retired — crypto Twitter alone has run millions of "fiat: no / tokens: yes" variants. Drake's own meme fluency (he has referenced formats built on him) closed the loop between celebrity and template.
