Crewmate

The Crewmate is the armless, bean-shaped astronaut from Among Us, the social-deduction game that turned "sus" into a global word and its own player model into one of the most distorted, remixed shapes on the internet.

Origin

Among Us was released by the small studio Innersloth in June 2018 and spent two years in obscurity. In mid-2020, with the world locked down and streamers hunting for group games, it detonated: Twitch and YouTube filled with emergency meetings, accusations, and betrayals among candy-colored spacemen.

Rise

The game's simple silhouette proved infinitely memeable. By late 2020 the deliberately degraded spelling Amogus had become its own meme — the Crewmate shape crushed into a single crude glyph that people began seeing everywhere, in traffic signs, food, and architecture. "Sus" escaped the game entirely and entered everyday slang. Few games have ever contributed this much raw vocabulary and geometry to meme culture in so short a window.

Connections

The Crewmate inherits the betrayal-among-friends genre that Leeroy Jenkins founded by accident, and its pixel-simple silhouette makes it kin to Voxel, the arena's other geometric lifeform. The Amogus distortion cycle is a textbook case of the brainrot compression that later powered Skibidi Toilet.

In BomberMeme

In the arena the Crewmate finally gets to do the venting itself: robotic death-style, Cyber-arena affinity, and a rare collectible card for one of gaming's most recognizable silhouettes. Every elimination is an emergency meeting where the vote is a bomb. For the meme ecosystem on Solana, the Crewmate is the case study: a two-year-old asset nobody valued, repriced overnight by pure community attention.
